1. Intent
At St. Michael's Primary School, we believe that a high-quality art education is essential to stimulate creativity, develop critical thinking, and provide cultural awareness. Our intent is to provide a broad and balanced art curriculum that inspires and challenges all pupils. Through following the Kapow Art Curriculum, we aim to develop pupils’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in artistic expression.
2. Aims
- To provide opportunities for pupils to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
- To develop proficiency in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art, craft, and design techniques.
- To evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft, and design.
- To know about great artists, craft makers, and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
3. Kapow Art Curriculum
We follow the Kapow Art Curriculum, which provides a comprehensive framework that ensures continuity and progression in the teaching of art across the school. The curriculum is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all pupils, providing a clear structure and high-quality resources to support teaching and learning.
4. Implementation
- Curriculum Planning: Teachers will follow the Kapow Art Curriculum planning documents, ensuring that lessons are well-sequenced and build on prior learning.
- Lesson Delivery: Lessons will be engaging, interactive, and hands-on, encouraging pupils to explore a variety of media and techniques.
- Resources: Adequate resources and materials will be provided to support the delivery of the art curriculum.
- Inclusion: All pupils, regardless of background or ability, will have access to the art curriculum. Differentiation and additional support will be provided as necessary.
- Assessment: Regular formative assessment will be conducted to monitor pupils' progress and inform future planning. Summative assessments will be used to evaluate overall attainment at the end of each unit.
