At St Michael’s, we believe that our children are not simply preparing for the future – they have an important role to play in shaping it today.
Inspired by our Christian vision and the teachings of Jesus, we encourage every child to be an Agent of Change, giving them the confidence, compassion and courage to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the world around them. We seek to develop pupils who live out our Christian vision by growing in wisdom, hope, dignity and respect, recognising that everyone has a valuable contribution to make and that all should have the opportunity to flourish.
Through our Eco Council , participation in the Wigan Youth Climate Summit, our School Council, our OPAL approach to outdoor learning and play, charitable fundraising, community partnerships, pupil leadership opportunities and our involvement in ATSA competitions and events, our children learn that their voices and actions matter.
We encourage pupils to recognise injustice, care for God’s creation, serve others and make choices that reflect our values of Mission, Integrity, Compassion, Honesty, Appreciation, Encouragement and Love. We want our children to speak up when something is not right, celebrate difference, show compassion and have the courage to take positive action. In doing so, we nurture children who understand that flourishing is for everyone and that even small acts of kindness, service and courage can bring about meaningful change in our school, our community and the wider world.
