At St Michael's, we are committed to providing a broad, balanced, relevant and engaging curriculum that enables every child to know more and remember more. By using carefully chosen programmes, we ensure that children develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to flourish as confident, curious, lifelong learners.
Religious Education is taught using the Manchester Diocese syllabus, which supports children in exploring Christianity alongside other world faiths. Pupils are encouraged to reflect, question, and develop empathy, deepening their understanding of values and beliefs while building respect for others.
We use Pathways to Write to develop children’s writing through a range of high-quality texts. This approach builds strong foundations in grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and composition, while also inspiring creativity and a love of storytelling. Writing and reading are closely connected, helping pupils to become confident, articulate, and enthusiastic communicators.
Our maths curriculum follows White Rose Maths, which is based on a mastery approach. Learning is broken down into small, carefully planned steps to ensure depth of understanding. This enables children to reason, problem-solve, and apply their skills, helping them to know more, remember more, and do more in mathematics.
For all other subjects, including Science, Computing, History, Geography, Art & Design, Music, PE, PSHE, and Design Technology, we use the Kapow Primary scheme. Kapow is built around a spiral curriculum, meaning key knowledge and skills are revisited and built upon year after year. This approach ensures children not only retain what they have learned but also develop a deeper and more secure understanding over time.
Our curriculum is designed to:
Help children know more and remember more across all subjects
Foster curiosity, creativity, and independence
Provide opportunities to revisit and deepen knowledge through a spiral curriculum
Celebrate diversity and promote respect
Inspire children to become confident, resilient, and lifelong learners
At St Michael's, we believe every child can succeed and shine. Through our carefully planned curriculum, we nurture learners who are ready for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school.
